Project Overview

Co-designed with Simba Xu under our "XUDO" alias, this project sought to reflect the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside in Huizhou province.

The pavilion sits on a citrus farm and provides a place to rest in the shade. The interior space will be used to sell coffee and prints, and the rest of the covered pavilion serves as exhibition space for student art projects.

After a few revisions to our concept, we flew to China to oversee construction of the foundation. During that time, we were able to visit and coordinate with metal fabricators in the region to source the metal structure that would become the roof: laser cut metal would be welded together, across which a membrane would be stretched.

Construction is still in progress; we are awaiting door + detail installation.

Problem Space Exploration

This project was designed to hold everything I needed when leaving my apartment: keys, wallet, phone, earbuds, and (most importantly) my glasses. It entailed turning and milling brass, creating a mold and casting bronze, sanding and refining the cast, milling aluminum frames, woodworking the base, and installing electronics (a phone charger). In the end, it serves as a very functional place to keep my essentials.
